Route 99 was built from humble beginnings and a whole lot of heart. It all started with ten little Silkies — a housewarming gift from my mom that changed everything. What began as a small backyard hobby quickly evolved into a deep passion for these gentle, fluffy Silkies. I started hatching a few eggs just for fun, completely mesmerized by the process. One incubator turned into three, and before long, I was upgrading to a larger one to keep up with the growing excitement and curiosity about silkie chickens.
As my flock of Silkies grew, so did my dedication to learning everything I could about breeding, genetics, and care. I began bringing in outside lines to strengthen my program as a silkie chicken breeder, working to create birds that reflected both the beauty and the heritage of the Silkie breed. Each new addition was chosen with intention — for health, structure, feather quality, and temperament — and every hatch became another small step toward something bigger.
Today, that simple gift has grown into a thriving flock of around fifty birds. Route 99 stands as a reflection of where passion, patience, and purpose can lead. Every bird here is raised by hand, with care and respect, on a small farm where quality always comes before quantity. For those looking for a silkie hatchery, our journey is still unfolding, but one thing hasn’t changed since the beginning: it all started with love, and that same love guides every decision we make for our flock of Silkies in Northern California today.
