 DNA testing is available for all breeds of chickens, not just Silkies.

Whether you're sexing a batch of chicks or testing birds for your breeding program, you can send your samples directly to us for testing.

 Samples are collected using a simple nail-clipping method. You can collect your own samples at home using plain printer paper, coffee filters, Q-tips, or PCR tubes.

How to collect:

1. Label your collection material with the bird's name or ID.
2. Using clean nail clipper (clean the clippers between birds to ensure no cross contamination), clip the tip of the nail to get a small amount of blood.
3. Collect the blood onto the paper, coffee filter, or Q-tip. If using a PCR tube, collect directly into the tube.
4. Keep each bird's sample separate and clearly labeled.
5. Allow paper and Q-tip samples to dry completely. 
6. Once dry, package your samples into individual ziploc bags, label the bags, and mail them to us in an envelope or package appropriate for your sample sizes
